AI PDF Summarizer
Use AI to read a supported, selectable-text PDF and generate a summary to help review long documents and identify important information. Choose a summary style, read the generated notes, and compare them with the original PDF. Your PDF is read in the browser; extracted text is sent to the server and AI provider for summarization.
Enable JavaScript to use the existing summarizer. Text is extracted locally. The requested AI summary sends extracted text to the AI service, not PDF bytes.
How to Summarize a PDF with AI
- Upload one selectable-text PDF, up to 50 MB, using the existing upload area. Image-only scanned PDFs are not supported.
- Choose Quick Summary, Detailed Summary, Key Points, or Executive Summary, then select Generate summary. Sign in if prompted. Very long documents may exceed the tool’s text-processing limits.
- Read the generated summary in the reading-notes panel and check it against the original PDF. You can copy the summary or download it as PDF or TXT.
Use AI to Read PDFs and Review Key Points
An AI PDF summary can help you review a long document more efficiently, identify key ideas, and understand its main topics before reading it in full. The available styles offer different ways to review an overview, detailed topics, key points, or executive notes.
Treat the summary as a reading aid, not a complete or guaranteed-accurate substitute for the source. AI can miss details or make mistakes. Verify important facts and do not rely on a summary as professional or legal advice.
Free Use and Supported Summary Downloads
The Free plan includes 10 PDF jobs per month, shared across PrivatePDF tools. Sign in or create an account to generate a summary. Each completed summary counts as one job. You can copy the generated notes or download the summary as PDF or TXT; these are summary exports, not Word or Excel conversions or a full-text export of the source PDF.
How Your PDF Text Is Processed
Text extraction happens in your browser. When you generate a summary, extracted text is sent to PrivatePDF’s server and the AI provider; the original PDF file is not sent through this summary workflow. AI processing is therefore not entirely local. Review the Privacy Policy before using sensitive content.
AI PDF Summarizer FAQ
What is an AI PDF summarizer?
An AI PDF summarizer uses text from a supported PDF to generate a shorter overview and important points. PrivatePDF offers four summary styles and displays the result as reading notes. AI output can omit details or contain errors, so review the original document.
How do I summarize a PDF with AI?
Upload a selectable-text PDF, choose a summary style, and select Generate summary. Sign in if prompted, then read the generated notes in the interface. You can copy the summary or download it as PDF or TXT; these downloads contain the summary, not a full conversion of the source document.
Can AI read a PDF and extract its key points?
It can use the PDF’s extracted text to generate an overview and key points. The Key Points style focuses on facts, figures, and dates, but accuracy and completeness are not guaranteed. Check important information against the source PDF.
Can I use this AI PDF summarizer for free?
Yes, within the Free plan’s 10 PDF jobs per month, shared across PrivatePDF tools. An account is required to generate a summary. Each completed summary uses one job, not one job per text section; free use is not unlimited.
Can AI summarize a scanned PDF?
This tool does not perform OCR and requires sufficient selectable text. An image-only scanned PDF cannot be summarized by the current workflow. A document with an existing readable text layer may work, subject to the tool’s limits.
Is my uploaded PDF processed securely?
The original PDF is read in your browser. Extracted text, not the PDF file, is sent to PrivatePDF’s server and AI provider to create the requested summary. This is not fully local processing. Review the Privacy Policy before summarizing sensitive documents; this page does not promise blanket third-party data-retention guarantees.
