Common Uses
Copy text from screenshots, extract text from photos of printed documents, or turn a picture into text you can edit. This online OCR tool can help digitize readable notes and reuse text from pictures without retyping every word. For photo to text and screenshot to text, use sharp, upright images with clear contrast. Handwriting, complex layouts, small print and blurred photos may produce mistakes.
Recognition runs on your device using Tesseract.js. Your browser downloads the OCR engine and only the selected language data from PrivatePDF; this tool does not upload images to an OCR service. Keep the tab open during recognition and review every result. The free online image to text converter does not guarantee perfect accuracy or preserve document formatting.

Choose a readable image, select English, French or Arabic, and click Extract Text. Review the OCR result and correct any mistakes before using it.
Is this image to text converter free?
Yes. This browser-based image tool is free to use and does not require a paid OCR API, separate OCR subscription or PDF job allowance. Processing is subject to the image-size limit and your device’s resources.
How can I copy text from an image?
Extract and review the text, then choose Copy Text. If your browser blocks clipboard access, select the text in the editable area and copy it manually.
Can I extract text from JPG and PNG images?
Yes. The tool accepts PNG, JPG, JPEG and WebP images up to 10 MB and 24 megapixels. PDF and SVG files are not accepted. Large images are resized to a maximum edge of 2560 pixels for recognition.
Can I convert a screenshot to text?
Yes. Upload a screenshot saved in a supported image format. Clear, high-contrast text usually gives better results than blurry or small text.
Does OCR support French and Arabic?
Yes. Select English, French or Arabic before extracting text. Arabic uses a right-to-left editing area. Mixed Arabic and Latin text may need manual corrections; accuracy is not guaranteed.
Can I edit or download the extracted text?
Yes. Edit the recognized words in the text area, then copy your edited text or download it as a UTF-8 TXT file. French accents, Arabic and other Unicode characters are preserved.
Can I use this tool without uploading my image to a server?
Yes. OCR runs in browser workers; the selected image and recognized text are not sent to an OCR server. Your browser downloads the OCR runtime and the selected language data from this website. Normal website requests such as authentication or ads may still occur. Image and text state are not saved by this tool; clear the tool or leave the page to release them.
